Artist Statement:
The dialogue between monotypes and oil painting has had a unique relationship in my work for over a decade. I create monotypes in a painterly way which offers opportunities to explore relationships directly, while embracing printmaking’s quality of serendipity. This in turn informs my oils both in process and subject. I strive to create multilevelled images that challenge the viewer with fresh views that are rich with association and ask questions of our existence. Variety and density are at the core of my artistic voice.
Embracing an improvisational approach, my intention is to evoke universal connection while skirting the edge between the known and unknown. Passionately crafted visual relationships dance in a field of mystery, where glimpses of humanity and land merge and fade in a rhythm of color, shape and mood. I have always found the interface between ideas, the shift and tension between forces as the most fertile ground in which to communicate the unity of life. When a work teases you into its enigmatic realm with hints of identifiably, alluring but uncharted, where danger and love coexist and words feel inadequate, then I know I have touched the beautiful mystery.
