"In order to expedite slow work, I shifted gears from making one surface at a time into the production of an exhibition. I crafted the surfaces, the grounds as a form of art, to represent the context, the level: the latitude of a bigger picture.
The surfaces are golden rectangles—dimensions that sustain the compositional thresholds between line and edge. The drawing travels hundreds of lineal kilometres to the point where the marks make the subject matter. There is no place of this world, no reference of being level to earth. It is my intention to construct in lead, the space between the drawing surface and the drawn subject. Drawing into the surface I enter an open space, there my representational marks are a slowed revisiting of a precarious subject. This process is drawn out in the abstraction; it is my explanation.
To plot these drawings I make consistent effort to diverge my eyes: An exercise in seeing more of the drawing surface at the same time as drawing on it—multi-relating my perceptions. Rendering the speed of viewing (representation and abstraction) through a metering of the lines and the spaces between them, I focus and blur the polygonal and elliptical lineal patterns to describe space and light in material terms."
